Baby, it’s cold inside…

It all came to a head when I slipped into bed on Monday night wearing super-thick flannel PJs with my bed socks tucked in. I was also clutching a fluffy hot water bottle for good measure. To say this wasn’t a sexy outfit is an understatement, and my partner was quick to snigger at my latest ‘lockdown look’.

Who can blame him, really? It’s hardly an outfit to get anyone in the mood. So something drastic has to be done…

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s been battling the cold at home throughout the Aussie winter (rants about the lack of insulation or central heating in Australian houses is a post for another day!). However, I can’t go on being so cold that the only option is looking like a grandma when I get into bed.

It’s a dilemma, right? Gone are my single days when I could wear what I wanted in the bedroom without judgement. Ha! Who knew I’d look back on those often lonely times with warm nostalgia.

So yes, aside from sipping warming drinks or wearing an abundance of extra clothes to bed, I’ve decided to add an extra layer to snuggle under and invest in a cosy bedspread. And an investment it is – I’ve found that bedspreads and coverlets don’t come cheap!

But where to start? I figured that I’m probably not the only one who’s looking for chic bedding for winter, so I thought I’d share my findings.

While our bed is a queen size, I’ve gone with a bedspread in a king size – there’s nothing worse than the shock of feeling a cold draft down your back when your other half pulls the duvet over in their sleep. Plus, going for the oversized option adds an element of luxury.

I also wanted something that would work with my existing bedding sets – a white linen set from Sheridan and a sage linen set from Bed Threads.

Here are three styles that I almost added to cart, plus the one I chose to buy. Cosy up!

Greenhouse Interiors

Greenhouse Interiors Dawn Art Quilt
Dawn Art Quilt, $399

I’m forever falling down the rabbit hole and can lose hours scrolling through Greenhouse Interiors‘ art collection. This stunning piece is made from 100% French flax linen and is Limited Edition, so only 100 have been made. I almost added it to cart. In fact, I’m actually still considering buying it… The only downfall for me is its dimensions, which are single bed sized. If only it came in a larger size.

Bed Bath N’ Table

Morgan & Finch Cobain Coverlet in Navy, $400

I almost went with this coverlet. I loved the navy colour and the luxe velvet feel of this heavy weight option. However, I was set on linen to match my bedding.

Adairs

Home Republic Vintage Washed Linen Grey Marle Coverlet, $320

A great, lightweight cover in washed linen. I have a soft spot for grey homewares and was seriously tempted by this one.

Sheridan

sheridan linen bed spread
Abbotson Linen Bed Cover in Smoke, $559

The winner! Sheridan’s offering stole my heart in the end. In my opinion the quality is unmatched – my linen bedding set from the brand is still going strong after four years. I love the Smoke colour too, which will add a little moodiness to my otherwise bright bedroom. This bedspread is a beautiful piece that will last, so it’s definitely worth the investment. Tip: become a member (for free) and this item currently comes down to $447.

Have you succumbed to the granny PJs look this winter or are you wrapping up in a blanket instead? Let me know in the comments below.
