i’m (booze) free

I’m spring cleaning. I know that it’s just turned to autumn in Australia, but up in the northern hemisphere (where I’m from) it’s all blossom and fresh green shoots – the season of rebirth, renewal and regrowth. I like the idea of coming into bloom.  Also, I bloody well need a detox! I’ve been burning the candle at both ends a little too much lately and need to get my health in check. So, I’ve bitten the bullet and given up the booze for 40 days. I’m now on day 10, so a quarter of the way through…

I’m excited about being booze free, but I have to admit I don’t seem to be feeling the health benefits as much as I’d have thought. I’m still lethargic and tired – perhaps this is part of my body’s reaction to the detox process – so it’s got me thinking about doing a proper cleanse. Maybe a juice fast. I’m not looking to lose weight, I’m really just wanting to revitalise and re-energise.

In the mean time there’s a few things I need to tick off my sober list, things that I can get round to doing at the weekends now I won’t be spending them with hangovers, things like: playing tennis, writing, photography, yoga… It’s an ever-growing list. And I’m looking forward to getting started on it.
